Discussion on IRC is very very good IMO, people are working together in
real time.  If major decisions are made during an IRC session, then
please post a summary back to the dev-list so that those decisions, and
more importantly, the reasons for those decisions can be archived.  An
edited chat log file serves very well for this purpose.
