We've always done our best here, but things sometimes slip by.
configure checks for a lot of things because it was designed to work for
multiple unixes.  A check may or may not be meaningful.  Something may
be used that the authors forgot to put in a specific check in configure.
 I think its as much as an art as a science and errors of inclusion or
omission are sometimes made.
