I can see no advantage to using them. If the mozilla code has been tested with 
it's own versions of
these things doesn't it make sense to go with the default?

No, as the ones Mozilla uses may be old, or have vulnerabilities. It is
best to use the ones on your system, as they should be up to date and
include security patches or updated versions. At least this is the
philosophy BLFS takes. YMMV.
