Not unless you want to.

Yes.  The main difference you'd notice in compiling software is that
gcc-4 is stricter on syntax than gcc-3.  So, you can safely apply any
patches in BLFS for gcc-4 because most of the time they're just for
fixing sloppy code that the gcc-3 compiler would have let slip
through.

I think so, but it's relative to your definition of stable.  Certainly
the main packages in BLFS have been being built against gcc-4 for
quite some time now.  Keep in mind that this is my opinion.

I would.  You could certainly build gcc-4 and keep moving, but there
wouldn't be a great advantage if your just trying to get a system
running.
