Sorry to leave my cave for a second but I have also to disagree with you this time,Jim. A script will bomb out and exit immediately if any error found in the commands. The eye is not perfect the shell however is accurate. Plus it leaves you with some valuable logs,to examine and compare with previous builds. As for the so called educational value,I believe there is a common misconception here. There is absolutely no educational value to copy/paste commands. Someone who will have interest for the build procedure and seek for knowledge, will read the Books anytime he likes, there is no rush to do it at the build time. If someone really needs to be educated will do builds over and over again and when he finish them,he will do one build more just to be sure that gained the desired knowledge. If someone needs to know the inner function of a linux system he lives with the system. In the case of LFS we have to be proud that we give to the people the most purist linux system to the world. I am also thinking that Dan made it clear in his subject/message that he seeks for testers, for the shake to make the 6.2 release a reality. Jhalfs, although I don't use it to be honest,is an excellent tool for the LFS developers and for the rest of the community who would like to give some help to the Dev team. For example from the time that Bruce decided to bring this baby (6.2) out I have already did 3 builds, rebuilding the system to see if it is reproducible. The LFS community (Devs/users) did a great deal of job since the previous summer (I remember that together with Randy we did the first builds) that gcc4* branched and it's really a pity that we didn't made a release since then. The Book is rock solid as it is and we need to cut a branch to gcc-4.1* glibc-2.4 binutils-2.17,as quicker as possible. The LFS project is currently stifling of the absence of innovation and community participation and that needs to be change. I would like also to give a call to the community as whole to help with this release. And jhalfs or some personal scripts are our assistants to this tedious task. The development is the real joy and we need to move on. Best Regards, Ag. PS. Congratulations Bruce,Tushar,Dan and Chris for your promotion. -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
