Well, I didn't mean that string to be applied literally :-) i.e. take your pick of via/in/through dependent on whichever you think is grammatically correct, e.g.:
"Sending processes configured via /etc/inittab the TERM signal" and "Sending processes configured via /etc/inittab the KILL signal" are both 62 characters.
