Not that it matters to me, really, but I'm the one that has tried to keep a GTK.org link in the book in the glib/gtk packages. I've always thought that since there was one link I *always* know works (the GNOME server), I liked using the GTK.org in the other as that shows the readers the URL for the 'home page' of the package maintainers. I can go either way, but I'm not sure that always making both links work is the "right thing to do", I mean, the link *did* work at one time, or it wouldn't there. And it's easy enough to change it when it's discovered that it no longer works because of the maintainer's directory structure reorganization. > The development is all done through and for > gnome primarily. However, I've always felt that if at least *one* of the links works in the package's instructions, then why must we worry that *both* work, when showing the 'home page' for the package maintainer is a nice feature. I've always liked the fact that most of the package maintainers can be found easy enough by following the URL in the download links, and Googling isn't necessary. Just me. YMMV. And lastly, this may be a moot issue now that Manuel has developed the wget script for all the package tarballs. Seems that would make it a snap to check each one, very often (providing bandwidth on Anduin wouldn't be an issue -Bruce?). Then, we'd know to make the trivial update almost as soon as a link became non-working (and that would probably be a three-or-more day in a row type test, to ensure that the link really is 'not working' and just not temporarily down for whatever reason). -- Randy rmlscsi: [bogomips 1003.26] [GNU ld version 2.16.1] [gcc (GCC) 4.0.3] [GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.6] [Linux 2.6.14.3 i686] 14:42:00 up 7 days, 14:56, 1 user, load average: 0.35, 0.20, 0.10 -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
