Note this from the LFS Editors' Guide (chapter 4): Before commiting any changes, it's important to check that you have all the syntax correct and that the book can actually pass through xsltproc without any problems. That is, all editors should ensure that the book renders correctly *prior* to committing their changes. Any additional barriers to entry for this process (e.g. Java), will only decrease the number of people willing/able to edit the book.
