I assume you have a /dev/disk/by-uuid directory, if you have that system still? (Don't remember who said that on this list, but I'm pretty sure someone did.) Removing it is definitely the right thing to do: blkid is installed by default now. If there is an option to enable libuuid, I *suspect* (but don't know for sure) that it will go away in 2.17.
