It appears I was wrong about the requirement for ruby.  ruby is only needed to 
run autogen.sh and the is not needed by default.  My comment about configure 
erroring out was was for an earlier version.

I've tested the package on both a 32-bit build and a 64-bit build.  I'm still 
investigating the configuration and install, but right now it looks encouraging.

No, sorry.  I don't see any posts from you since 2007.  What are you going to 
rewrite?
