My experience has been that they mostly need one line seds to replace
spaces with tabs.
Eg, for gstreamer:
sed -i '/ase --o/s/ /\t/' docs/{gst,libs,plugins}/Makefile.in
and for audacious-plugins:
sed -i '/0, gio/N;s/\n */ /' extra.mk
cdrdao-1.2.3 compiles without problem for me
