I should acknowledge here that it was very flexible indeed to re-create 
a branch for me that allows me to do experimental work.

I suppose what I am really after is that as a community we provide more 
means/avenues to foster experimental thinking where appropriate. If you 
have any suggestions on how to do this, I'd love to hear them.
