Are they used in the build? Officially, no, you shouldn't need any of the bootscripts. However, you will probably have trouble bringing up your network without the ifup/ifdown helpers that are in that tarball at the moment. I've removed the download links in r10174. I'll try to figure out what to do about network interfaces next.
