I tested tar a while back too and had no issues, but I saw your comment (2) on #3409 so decided to hold back. My understanding is that the ACL code is new, so any bugs in it aren't regressions (see NEWS referenced in the release announcement at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2013-10/msg00002.html. The reported bug concerning sparse file handling suggests it's a long known bug too: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2013-10/msg00006.html As such, I'm happy to get the updated version into LFS.
