I just wanted to mention that I got a new laptop this afternoon.

Toshiba Satellite 17.3" Laptop
Intel Core i7
8GB Memory
750GB Hard Drive

processor : 7
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 60
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz

I spent a while figuring out how to not accept the Windows EULA. It wasn't obvious. I had to remove the battery and then start up holding the F2 key.

The next issue was how to disable that secure boot thingy. There were two separate places in the BIOS that I had to install as well as to tell it to boot to usb first. That wasn't too had to figure out.

I decided to use a usb install drive with debian-7.1.0-amd64-xfce. It wasn't liking the data on the usb drive so I reloaded it (it has worked before). Anyway, it's up now.

First thing I noticed was that it's using the vesa driver. The video is 'Intel Corporation Haswell Integrated Graphics Controller'. The vesa drivers does give 1920x1080 so that's not a problem. I suspect when I get LFS up I'll be able to use a better driver. I don't know yet if this needs firmware or not.

The second thing is that the wifi isn't recognized:

Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet

Again, I suppose that this can be fixed with a new kernel.

My next objective is to do a LFS build an follow with a relatively complete BLFS build. I want to use this system to validate/update the current -dev books for both LFS and BLFS.

It will be interesting to see what the SBU time is.
