by far the best documentation I found about EFI:
I use rEFInd on my old Mac (a late 2008 MacBook Unibody), since I was
too lazy to dig into the Macs EFI quirks.
I did not yet build rEFInd, but it seems it brings most of the required
dependencies with it. It looks nice, allows the usage of icons and
kernels can be placed on other partitions than the EFI boot partition. I
would still prefer using gummiboot, since it is just dead simple.
Smallest code base possible. But less features than others. For this
reason: Less likely to break the config. Bugs like the Lenovo keyboard
bug get fixed quite quick. Of course we should provide a list of UEFI
bootloaders for reference (GRUB 2.02, rEFInd, Syslinux/EFI) - and we
could even show how to configure a kernel to be a working bootx64.efi
without a boot loader!
But when it comes to a proper choice that satifies the majority we
should decide between gummiboot (simple and easy to configure) and GRUB
(more complicated to configure, but more in line with the BIOS edition
of LFS).
