That said, I will experiment with it, but I have no guarantee of when I can say anything about it. I will be more than happy to hear your results as well. I wish I had more man-hours to dedicate to LFS, but I am so busy right now that it is hard.
Also be careful of relative links in top level directories. Self inflicted wound! They should always be created with the real target. The /lib/cpp issue mentioned the other day was a result of that (a combination of too many late nights and rushing). At any rate, symlinking without changing build instructions (short of what's already been mentioned) seems to have gone without much headache so far. I'm only marginally further than I was two days ago...I'm gradually coming to see the grinch's POV! :-)
I also took another detour for a day to try a different build method for the alternate gcc drivers/front-ends (to no end, I might add, except maybe better control and understanding of the build and installation). While I didn't meet the goal I had in mind, the downtime was worth it. I also looked at what others are doing with 5.3. Looks like at least Arch and Fedora, are including graphite (ISL has replaced CLooG and PPL, and it builds in-tree), dropping SSP, and adding MPX, but I ultimately went with what we currently have for my first run back (I know it works and doesn't introduce too much variance).
Anyway, OT for now. I plan to revisit the above in the new year if nobody else does before me.
