After the discussions about newer minimum versions in glibc-2.26, I've given 8.1-rc1 a try on my oldest system (LFS-7.6 with gcc-4.9.1, binutils-2.24, glibc-2.20, kernel 3.18.20). It has now got through LFS, and into the BLFS essentials. I saw more test failures than I was expecting, but some of those were probably because I've missed recent fixes for tests. But for gcc itself, according to test_summary I got 1134 FAIL in gcc.target/i386/mpx - I'm sure we've talked about this in the past, and I thought at one time it had been mentioned in the book, but a quick look in a text browser didn't spot it. The old kernel does have CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION and CONFIG_IA32_AOUT enabled.
I thought that started with 6.x, and seems it was a simple fix, but it escapes me now. A rebuild with current compiler, or maybe install before test? Minimum kernel is now 3.2.0 for glibc-2.26, which you are well above.
And one definite error in the book - when we come to strip, or not strip, libraries, libstdc++.so is no longer 6.0.23.
Will need to make that an entity. --DJ -- http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
