In the past, I've not had a need for sound control, but I recently bought a projector the uses hdmi for input. I had an initial problem getting sound to go out from my laptop over hdmi, but figured that out and adjusted the ~/.asoundrc to support that. I have a couple of minor control issues though. First when I boot up, the S/PDIF in alsamixer entry is muted. I've also killed pulsaudio to get the sound to work, but I'm not 100% sure that is needed. Right now, I sometimes want sound to be on my laptop speaker and sometimes to go out through the hdmi port. I can probably set up a simple script for my use, but I'm sure someone has an app to do it. My question is what application do others use to control sound output?
I use gtk-alsamixer, a simpke gtk2 application working like the text-based alsamixer. I had to patch one line to get a sensible default window. Throws tons of warnings on compilation, but works like a charm.
It's on github, my patch should be there , too, under issues. Bye Tim
