Problem starts when I enter chroot environment. I get the
"I have no name!" prompt but as soon as I enter any command the shell
seems to die. No more prompt. I can enter commands but there is no
response. No way to exit other than closing the session window.

on ftp.linuxfromscratch.org there are bash patches under 6.0, unstable, and
testing that should fix this.

bash-3.0-avoid_WCONTINUED-1.patch
bash-3.0-display_wrap-1.patch
bash-3.0-fixes-3.patch
and it works!
