Dear reader, I am new to linux, so my question could be really stupid. I do consider myself a poweruser when it comes to dos/windows, but linux is just so different. I really wanted to get to know the innards of linux, so I started building an LFS system. However, I have run into a problem I cannot solve.
When doing the sanity check prescribed in chapter five, I get the following message: lfs:/tools$ cc dummy.c /mnt/lfs/tools/bin/../lib/gcc/i586-pc-linux- gnu/3.4.1/../../../../i586-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: no input files collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I have gone through the whole book painstakingly carefully from the beginning twice (reformatting the harddrive and using the LFS live CD as the host system). Both times I have stranded on this error. I have edited and double-checked the specs files by hand. I have double-checked the path and the symlink, as advised. I have looked in the FAQ and in the message archives of lfs-support. There are some posts that refer to the same problem but they advise to rebuild from binutils-pass1. Because I have gone through the whole proces twice, I don't think this will remedy the problem. There are some posts that advise to apply a specs-2.patch. These posts are about the LFS 5.x system. I have LFS 6.0 and no specs- 2.patch file in my packages directory. Would it be wise to apply a 5.x patch to the 6.0 system? If so, where can I get the specs- 2.patch? Thankyou very much for taking the time to help me, Amadeus de Koning -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
