I generally like slack because it's the trimmest in a lot of ways but I have to agree this is annoying. I was looking at Gentoo and Fedora too. I haven't tried to build it under either though. Can anyone else provide an idea of the "best" distro to build off of?

does anyone know something about fedora and lfs. it's the best option for me because there's only a dial up connection to the i-net and i can't download a whole distro...
