Two things here:

One, for what it is worth, I don't use Xorg-configure, as it just
doesn't work for me half the time. Something ends up not getting
discovered correctly. I use xorgconfig instead. It is a little more
trouble answering the questions, but I always get a good workable
configuration, that has all the stuff in the configuration file,
making it easy two tweak.

Two, I don't see how an inoperable mouse and trying to create a
liveCD is "on the same note". You'd probably get better answers if
you were to list your issues individually. You have one great big
paragraph up there, with at least 4 different questions/issues.
