I am afraid I will have to respectfully disagree with that statement in 
regards to RPM which I use as a pkg system. As I make all the packages myself 
I still have complete control over the software installed and their 
dependencies. I assume that other pkg managers are the same.

You would only lose control when the packages are prepared by someone else 
which would be highly unlikely on a B/LFS system.
