Hmm... I just replaced my m.board, and the old system booting off the new
hardware have problems finding external disks. Turns out udevinfo doesn't
see any serial numbers for the disks etc. (!) I thought that maybe I would
have to update udev (from 046) the idea being that new versions would be
better at digging out info from newer {usb|firewire}drivers' output. 059 doesn't
compile, so I try 058. After some hairpulling I realize it completely
f...s up permissions on stuff like /dev/null and who knows what else.
I just hope I can get everything (except the external disks) up and working
again with the old 046 version...
Just my (very) recent experience with udev 058...
