It seems to me that if you have booted an "empty" system (i.e empty
hard drive) with the LFS CD, then you can entirely skip chapter 5
(the temporary system) and go straight to chapter 6. Is this right?

I think what he wants to know is if he can build LFS using the Live CD.
Since the CD provides a clean enviroment, could you skip the building of
the tool chain and use the tools on the CD?
Good question actually, I was curious about this myself.
