I have lots of experience with linux/unix as a software designer mainly php and java/jsp so know a bit about linux but still bad about "inside" kernel/linux stuff. I have few weeks holidays and heard about lfs thought it would be a nice experience to learn more about linux building my own system. I have no experience with irc, I just really don't like how fast it is and prefer newsgroup and mailing list but while building the lfs, to ask for help I had no choice than to use the irc. I ask some question on lfs-support and try to answer some. I guy took me appart to tell me I had better change my login name (livecd) because the same morning the ops was bragging about not answering newbie with login like livecd or root and my questions would most likely be not answered. With my experience I can probably build a lfs system without the help of some sad ops(but with the one of the mailing list ;), I just thought it funny that the topic come around one of the few day in my life I use IRC.
