I notice that a lot of embedded x86 hardware uses IDE attached CF as a
boot device. Maybe that's because it inits faster? There are adapters
CF->IDE and also the odd, fits-right-in-a-40/44-pin-socket, type.

I thought it was the CF itself that was slow to start, but certainly
waiting for a chain of usb devices to appear is going to be slooow (
based on what I see when I plug my camera in).
