As it says in the book, you can probably ignore errors in Ch. 5. Most people don't run the testsuites in Ch. 5 since you will throw away all this stuff after you finish Ch. 6. You can continue building, but in Ch. 6, make sure to run the tests at least on glibc, gcc and binutils.
