These days, we don't get many problems with missing or non-executable
bootscripts because they are installed like any other package.
Please confirm that /dev/console and /dev/null exist in the new system
when it is mounted at /mnt/lfs (/dev will be mounted over these, but
init needs a console to boot).
Udev used to be a kernel option, but I think it can no longer be
turned-off for all recent kernels.
