... and can't you just undo that configuration once the build is over? Meaning, the ability for certain users to execute commands w/o a passowrd can be very shortlived, and if you download all the packages and the book and then build offline, you should be fine (unless of course one of those notorious criminals who knows linux breaks into your house while you get up for coffee)
