If it is something other than absolutely nothing, double-check your symlinks, making sure they aren't broken (from *inside* the chroot), and the targets are mode +x . Also check the scripts you chrooted with against the ones in the book - I seem to remember it being mentioned once on these lists that the scripts in the hint are adapted from an older version of LFS and don't give desirable results (I could, ofcourse, be spouting utter crap here - my memory tends to play tricks on me at this time of night).
