Well, the most obvious thing it to make sure that /etc/inputrc looks

inputrc.  Except maybe it was the letter r.

Thanks for the reply, Dan. Your post spurred me to take a look at the files I created this morning. Now let me say that I could have found the solution and not posted back with my success. That would be the safer, less embarassing way. However,.....

Let me say it this way. If anyone wants to stop their "e" key from working just change, in /etc/profile:

export INPUTRC=/etc/inputrc to export INPUTRC=/etc/profile

Corrected this situation and my "e" is now fine. And I'm thinking about building Xorg-7. Guffaw!!!
