I will be using my host system, I want to run Chap 6 now. But if I get
the drift of your question, the host system runs with a real /dev on
the root filesystem. It's a LFS-4.1 system running with a "test"
2.6.11.12 kernel compiled without modules. That has gotten me through
Chap 5, and once before through Chap 6--though I'm not sure I did that
right, and may not have because that system munged its partition table
before it was complete enough to take a worthwhile backup. This time
I'm asking how to do it right.

>Just write some scripts that take care of 6.2/6.8.

I was asking what kind of scripts would be necessary. If I was sure I
would write these scripts properly, I wouldn't have asked.

Unless you're offering to give me your computer, I don't see how that
is relevant to answering my question. I need to compile Chap 6 on this
computer.

No, this system doesn't run udev until AFTER I get Chap 6 installed and
bootable. Bad presumption, not all systems run udev!

>/dev/console

That's not the point. Chapter 6 sets up some virtual file systems
once, presuming one is going to complete the installation in one
sitting. I need to do it in multiple sessions, and I don't object to,
and can see some advantage to, having them setup on the real /dev. I
need some advice on adapting the book's instructions. (Yes, I know,
FBBG. It just won't work for me!)

Dan? Got any suggestions for me?
