The binary driver may also be easier to get working too in some cases (oddly enough) - I've never had any luck getting the nv driver to drive my monitor at full res (1920x1200), while the binary driver has no problems other than requiring a modeline. It's supposed to be fixed in the 9625 beta driver, but I didn't think recommending beta drivers to a new guy was a good idea.
