I looked at that file and it was a symlink to /lib/libncursesw.so.5.5,

1. Should it contain "INPUT(-lncursesw)" rather than "-libncursesw"?
2. Should it be binary? It seems only the libraries in /usr/lib
should contain "INPUT(-lncursesw)" while the ones in /lib should
be binary.
I went back to the livecd and chrooted into the $LFS directory to try to
rebuild ncurses again.
Vladimir:
1. I must have screwed that up, or at least typed it into the email
wrong. It now says -lncursesw.
2. In section 6.18 (the Ncurses section), there's a line that says "mv
-v /usr/lib/libncurses.so.5* /lib" and then right below it there is a
"ln -sfv ../../lib/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libncursesw.so" which
apparently links the ones in /usr/lib to the ones in /lib.
On the second time I tried (the first was what brought me to this list,
the second is right now), I was getting the same "file too short" message.
I'm trying a third time now.
Install when fine, no errors.
I wrote the stuff on page 112 into a script and checked it to make sure
it was right.
Apparently, it must have been a typo somewhere. It's strange that it
took me three tries to catch it ;-)
/lib/libncurses.so.5 and <that>.5 are both binary now (my ears confirmed
this when cat made my speaker hiss at me).
Thanks for your help.
