logrotate is easy to use and set up with cron. I'm pretty sure it is a debian package you are looking for. logwatch is good for log reporting. The daily, weekly, monthly scripts so common in the distributions were created by the maintainer of cron. That is, it is the way he/she decided to config cron. If you decide to config cron the same way, you should be able to just drop them in ( maybe some little changes ).
