I think that'd just introduce problems in making packages find each other. E.g, Gnome consists of dozens of packages with complex dependencies - by installing after building everything, you've got to work out how to build each program against the compiled source tree of it's dependencies rather than against installed packages. Seems it'd be possible, but a *huge* amount of effort to make it work. Simon.
