I missed that you were chroot'ed.... One thing I would try after reading Dan Nocholson's email is to switch to an alternate console that's not chroot'ed into the new environment and run slocate gcc. Look for anything under /mnt/lfs. Also, try changing your PATH variable to pur the /tools/bin at the front of the string, rather than at the tail. Sorry I misread where you were!

Thanks for the reminder on the ticks that was a problem for me in the beginning but I no longer have long since resolved that issue. But I guess my question still remains.. why isn't gcc working in the new environment?
