On my old PC Chips M-571, I stuck a 60GB IDE into it and BIOS could not 
recognize it. Linux was perfectly happy with it though. A problem would 
be in the Grub/Lilo arena: they depend on BIOS information for certain 
operations. I believe that once udev came into play, BIOS would be 
irrelevant.
