After poring through many useless posts, I decided it was either a long-standing bug in the kernel (documented in RH bugzilla and other distro's BZ too) or a hardware problem. Memtest86 overnight might detect some failing memory or CPU or heat caused issues. Open your case (note any unexpected warmth), re-seat everything possible, boot memtest and let it run overnight. BTW, before you button it back up, see if all the fans are running, especially the CPU/HSF combo. If you recently added memory, keep in mind that slots may support things like PC3200 in all slots, but if all slots are filled, maybe only PC2700. Has to do with front-side(?) bus speed. I have one unit that I backed the speed down so that I could use all the memory.
