Thanks. I believe I have tried it with the kernel on the live cd, but I will 
redo and check just to be sure. I'll let you know if that works or not.

The problem with page.h is what happens when you use the latest kernel
version with that version of perl. If using the version in the book
didn't work, then there was probably a different problem.
