I have not received any errors up until now by following the book. However, I
have come across one when executing "make" for Gettext.
This is the error I get:
/usr/bin/ld: ../gnulib-lib/.libs/libgettextlib.a(error-progname.o): relocation
R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared
object; recompile with -fPIC
../gnulib-lib/.libs/libgettextlib.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[4]: *** [libgettextsrc.la] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/sources/gettext-0.17/gettext-tools/src'
make[3]: *** [all] Error 2
make[3]: Leaving directory `/sources/gettext-0.17/gettext-tools/src'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/sources/gettext-0.17/gettext-tools'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/sources/gettext-0.17/gettext-tools'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
I ran
./configure --prefix=/usr --docdir=/usr/share/doc/gettext-0.17 && make
and this is the error it gave me.
Please can someone help me!?
