I have just built a CLFS basic system, but I'm appealing to these lists
since my experience is that a lot of configuration gurus hang out here.
I have just the basic system plus dhcpcd client and wireless tools. I
cannot get connected to the internet with either my internal Atheros
AR9285 802.11g Wifi Adaptor or my Linksys Wireless USB Adapter with
Speed Booster. The former has an Atheros sponsored driver, ath9k,
available in kernels 2.6.29 and later. The latter is a Broacom chip
that's supported by a B4320 (I think) driver in 2.6.30.5. I want only
to connect to the internet through my router and be able to connect
automatically to "hot spots" at motels and interstate rest stops--and at
family homes. I can connect in Windoze with either device and with the
USB device (don't ask) in my Ubuntu-9.04 host system either here at my
home or at any of the places I mentioned above. Sooooo, I don't have a
device or router problem.
It's got to be something very simple and almost insignificant. I will
post below the output of iwconfig and iwlist commands for each device.
No matter what I do when I ping my router I get "network unreachable."
I've googled myself senseless and tried all the wild Ubuntu work
arounds--to get comparative results--to no avail. From what I see below
it SHOULD work, but it doesn't. Here goes:

I think that the key is that both scans identified my router by MAC
address and ESSID and channel.
I added 'PRINTIP="yes"' and 'PRINTALL="yes"' to my dhcpcd [in CLFS]
files, but even when the bootscripts report "OK" for starting dhcpcd on
wlan{0,1}, I receive no output.
My forehead is bloody from this brick wall, and I'm stumped as how to
proceed. I'm looking forward to any replies.
