For some things, you will have enough experience to know that you want to use a *particular* package (e.g. web browsers, window managers - some of these are not in BLFS, but usually that just means they are CMMI [ configure; make ; make install ].
If you have no existing preferences, and there is a choice, go with what seems easier to build. Eventually, you will want to try the alternatives, but it's probably more productive to pick something and try to build a semi-useful system even if it isn't exactly to your taste, and try the alternatives later. Then, work back from the "must haves" to get an idea of the *required* dependencies, plus optionals and play around with these in a text file (or on a piece, of paper, with a soft pencil and an eraser!) until you have a build-order you think might work. When you start to build, if you log the output you can later go back and note that maybe package A should come after package B even though it built where you put it. Usually takes a few attempts to get most things working. ĸen -- After tragedy, and farce, "OMG poneys!" -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
