In the default ntp.conf from  NTP-4.2.4p7 in blfs, the
first server listing server, tock.nml.csir.co.za does
not resolve.

This is no big deal, it uses the next url in the list,
but does result in a misleading log entry:

Mar  5 09:42:03 eagle ntpd_initres[1549]: host name not found: 
tock.nml.csir.co.za
Mar  5 09:42:03 eagle ntpd_initres[1549]: parent died before we finished, 
exiting

After reading some of docs on ntp, I condensed the list down to the entries for 
North and South America.I did a few ntpd -q 's and the offending entry went away
and indicated round-robin responses to my queries.
