In the default ntp.conf from NTP-4.2.4p7 in blfs, the first server listing server, tock.nml.csir.co.za does not resolve.
This is no big deal, it uses the next url in the list, but does result in a misleading log entry: Mar 5 09:42:03 eagle ntpd_initres[1549]: host name not found: tock.nml.csir.co.za Mar 5 09:42:03 eagle ntpd_initres[1549]: parent died before we finished, exiting After reading some of docs on ntp, I condensed the list down to the entries for North and South America.I did a few ntpd -q 's and the offending entry went away and indicated round-robin responses to my queries. -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
