IMHO, if you are building LFS for the first time,
it's better to use a Virtual machine.
first create a virtual machine, use lfscd to boot it, and follow the book.
I have used kvm-qemu as a virtual machine, but I think VM-ware player
would be the better choice, as you can simply hibernate the machine,
instead of shutting down.
Also by using virtual machine, you can safly play with grub and MBR
without worrying about your current installation.
