 I've no idea - apart from occasional painful past episodes where
I've used binaries, I only build from source and I loathe package
managers.  In fact, disgust with package management tools was one of
the things that brought me to BLFS.  I know some people swear by
some of them, but I'm more likely to swear *at* them.
