Fixed it. I had made a typo in the configure options which caused it to fail 
with a different error the first time. After I fixed it, I forgot to do a make 
clean.

 Your host system does not have the required headers.  This is odd, because 
usually when gcc is installed the glibc headers will be installed along with 
it.  On ubuntu, I think you need 'build-essentials'.  On fedora and similar 
distros, you will need any -devel versions (if they exist) of the packages 
listed in 'Host System Requirements' in the preface.
