I think the error message was misinterpreted. It looks to me like the program df is reporting an error condition -- that it cannot read a table of mounted file systems. I think your first steps should be to investigate this "cannot read table of mounted file systems" message. So it looks like you can run the df command properly. The shell is not reporting some weird error about df.
